Stopping Drinking Alcohol

Stopping Drinking Alcohol
Stopping Drinking Alcohol is one of the most life changing things you can do for yourself.  And it doesn't matter whether you are a lifelong alcoholic or just suffering from hazy weekend mornings - alcohol is taking away and not putting back.  This time, it's for you to put it back.

My name is Bren Murphy and I'm alcoholic and I'm not hiding behind a pen name or anonymously anymore.  I am working on taking the shame out of my alcoholism, and at the same time dissolving my own doubts about where I am on this alcoholic journey.

For me, right now, the best thing is to come clean and release all my shame history and just be who I am.  I'm not a bad person, I'm sober and I'm trying - what more can I do?  Maybe write a book?

I quit drinking over five years beginning with some pretty awkward rock bottom moments that soon progressed to humiliating rock bottoms, and then completely degrading rock bottoms.  It was as though each rock bottom progressively erased my entire sense of self respect and set me on a path of even heavier drinking the next time.  It had to stop.

  1. Congratulations Brendan. I think that the Traditions are a bit dated and often taken out of context in today's digital age. Sharing your journey, including the horrors and the triumphs, is how we relate to each other as alcoholics. Sobriety isn't boring - quite the opposite and I applaud anyone who works to get that message out to those who are still suffering. Well done.
