"When you've given up the drink,
And those nasty cigarettes,
Now I leave the party early, at least with no regrets,
I watch the sun as it comes up, I watch it as it sets,
Yeah, this is as good as it gets"
Just a short one tonight. With apologies to Colin Hay.
I used to hear this one on the radio a couple of years back when I was full on drinking and it sounded like my kind of sobriety. Simple, outdoorsy, using your body, and an honest clarity.
"I like swimming in the sea...
I adore this man's music and I own everything he has ever made. This song is my anthem. Good choice, sober one :)
ReplyDeleteThank you for your honesty
DeleteIt is a great theme - I have just been moving some gravel out in the garden and it is the perfect meditation for physical work.
ReplyDeleteLove the "still this emptiness remains" - as though he concedes he doesn't have all the answers either, but life is beautiful even with some pieces missing from the puzzle...
Yeah, that's what I'm talking' 'bout! Thanks for posting this. This is what makes being sober so great. You posts always get me psyched up!
ReplyDeleteThanks for this one.
You help me stay sober, thanks. Love the Rilke.
ReplyDeleteAnd a woman if you are one....yeah thanks for this.
ReplyDeleteA short side note: a local radio presenter is a family friend and a massage client as well. For a couple of years I yammered away at him about booking Colin Hay fi the live broadcasting/stage show that our local station does. Wonder of wonders he ultimately got him booked and my friend's wife called me to let me know they could get me into the show. As it turned out, the night of his performance was the first weekend that my husband and I spent apart afte our separation and the kids were with me. There was no way that I could get a babysitter on such a sensitive night. My children were hurting. My husband actually went to the show and texted me video of him all night. I wasn't sure how to take that but I feel like I made the right choice in passing up the show for my kids.
ReplyDeleteThanks for this song, I'd never heard it before.."or a woman if you are one" :)
